  2. What are some street names? Some street names include… • Scabies mite • Itch mite • Lice

  3. What is scabies?? • Scabies are microscopic mites that dig into your skin. They then multiply, causing red, irritated patches on the skin.

  4. What type of infection? Scabies is neither bacterial or viral. It is caused by a parasitic mite.

  5. How is it spread? • Scabies is spread by prolonged skin to skin contact, sexual contact, or simply by sharing bedding, clothing, and towels. It is highly contagious.

  6. What are the symptoms for men? • Sores • Bumps • Burning or pain when urinating • Itching that worsens at night • Pimple- like irritation • Blisters • Discharges

  7. What parts of the body are affected in men? How? • Arms • Neck • Legs • Feet • Genitals They are affected by small irritated pimple-like blisters.

  8. What are the symptoms for women? • Sores • Bumps • Blisters • Burning or pain when urinating • Stomachaches • Bleeding • Bad smell • Pimple-like irritation

  9. What parts of the body are affected in women? How? • Arms • Neck • Legs • Feet • Genitals They are affected by small irritated pimple-like blisters.

  10. How long until you see symptoms? It can be weeks or even months until you see symptoms.

  11. Can it be cured? Yes. Scabies is curable. It usually takes about 2-3 weeks for the infestation to be cleared up. The treatment is a liquid medication that is applied to the entire body.

  12. Statistics The percentage of those who have scabies (.0001%) is so small that it can barely be seen on a pie chart. Of 300 million scabies cases per year, 6 to 12 million of those cases occur in the United States.

  13. To conclude… Scabies is a nasty, terrible disease. So, don’t take a chance. Don’t share bedding, clothing, or have prolonged skin to skin contact. Even though it is curable, you wouldn’t want to live through even a few weeks with… SCABIES
