  2. Public Policy at Home Domestic Policy-how the government decides to solve problems within the United States

  3. Entitlements Social Insurance Programs (Entitlements)-programs to help the elderly, ill and the unemployed. They are funded through individual contributions and available to those who pay into the programs Ex: 1.) Social Security-for elderly, widows and their children 2.) Medicare-medical care for the elderly 3.) Unemployment Insurance-those who are temporarily unemployed

  4. Public Assistance Programs Public assistance programs-maintain basic health and living conditions for those people with insufficient resources of their own. 1.) Supplemental Security Income (ISS)-support for aged, blind and disabled 2.) Medicaid-provide health care for low-income families 3.) Food stamps-provide food for low-income families

  5. Social Improvement Programs Social Improvement Programs-these programs have improved the quality of our lives in the US over the years 1.) Smart Growth-has provided a master plan to manage growth, develop land use and preserve open space 2.) Regional Interests-states working together in an effort to correct problems that each can not solve on their own 3.) Emissions-EPA has set standards for pollution of cars 4.) Title IX-provides similar opportunities for both boys and girls in academics and sports
