  2. Table of Contents: • Question • Identify • Barriers and Solution • Decide: Plan of Action • Elaborate • Percent of water usage • Measurements • You can take Action! • Action

  3. Question: Are you aware of how much water you use every single day?

  4. Identify • Household water supplies is important. • People have taken action by: • Saving the water we use • Using less water • Teaching people how they can save water • How it affects our surroundings (locally, nationally, globally): • We need to store water or we will have less house hold water • Droughts • Difficulty in getting water • Increase payment in water

  5. Decide: Plan of Action • Inform people and show people: • How much water is used and wasted. • Importance of saving water. • What the outcomes are if we do not save water. • How people can take action and save water.

  6. Elaborate • Average African family consumes about 5 gallons of water a day. • Average American consumes about 176 gallons a day. • Average price in the United States is $1.50 to $1.75 per gallon of water. • Results from not saving water: • Droughts • Difficulty in getting water • Increase payment for water

  7. The percentage of water usage

  8. Measurements • I did measurements to visually and mathematically see how much water my family uses every single day • Family size: 5 • To do these measurements I measured the volume of the tub and the volume for a gallon, and then I divided the tub’s volume with the volume for a gallon to find how many gallons is used.

  9. Measurements Continued… • The shower ended towards having 2.5 gallons of water per minute • My family uses a total of 55 minutes in the shower. • My family of five uses about 137.5 gallons of water • That is like 137 jugs of milk

  10. You can take Action! • Washing dishes and laundry in a full load • Take shorter showers; instead of showers that take up a lot of water • Take baths • Collect cold water or the rain water into buckets • This water can be used for washing the car or watering plants • Turning the water off while brushing your teeth • Placing a brick in the toilet • Checking for leaks • For the toilet you can place food coloring into the tank to see if the color shows up in the toilet without it being flushed.

  11. Action • I took action by following the solutions • I informed my family on how they could save water • I informed people ways of how they could save water and what they can do, so they can apply it at home • I, myself, saved water and used less water
