  6. Assessment Policies

  7. End-of-Course (EOC) Tests • End-of-Course (EOC) testing is a recommendation of the High School Redesign Commission and is an increasingly common practice in many other states. • End-of-Course tests help ensure consistent and rigorous instruction and expectations throughout the state. • EOC tests are gradually replacing 9th grade iLEAP, 10th grade GEE, and 11th grade GEE.

  8. Implementation Schedule

  9. iLEAP and GEE Phase Out • In 2010-2011, 9th grade iLEAP will be discontinued. • In 2011-2012, 10th grade GEE will be discontinued (except for retesters). • In 2012-2013, 11th grade GEE will be discontinued (except for retesters).

  10. Implementation Schedule

  11. EOCs in High School Accountability • In 2010-2011, the Baseline SPS for high school accountability will be based on iLEAP and GEE (and LAA 1 & LAA 2). • In order to have an “apples to apples” comparison in 2011-2012, a “transition” baseline SPS consisting of 2010-2011 EOCs will be created. • The 2011-2012 Growth SPS, used for Growth Labels, will include the same EOC subjects as the 2010-2011 “transition” baseline.

  24. Technology Updates

  25. Tips for Planning Ahead • Review the Technology Guidelines and Testing Manuals • Ensure that each school is assigned a technology point of contact • Form a team to ensure district technology coordinators and network administrators work with each school • Determine how many students are testing at each school and assess bandwidth needs

  26. Tips for Planning Ahead • Ensure that proxy servers and firewalls allow access to EOC servers • Ensure that pages from www.louisianaeoc.org are not cached by district/school servers

  27. Preparing Computers for Testing • Make sure the secure browser is downloaded to lab/classroom computers • This is the same version of the browser that was used last May (version 2.20.2 for windows and 1.20.2 for Macs) • Run the compatibility script on lab/classroom computers • Checks to ensure java scripting is enabled • Checks for the Flash Player and the SVG Viewer

  28. Preparing Computers for Testing • If images are used to prepare student computers, ensure that the image contains all required EOC settings and software components

Tips for Indentifying Local Network Issues • Ping EOC servers to determine application availability • Complete traceroute to determine possible failure points • Validate that district or school-level content filtering systems allow EOC test content to be transmitted • Monitor router, firewall, and content filtering statistics

  34. Recommendations for Saturated Networks • Validate that provisioned bandwidth can be reached • Provision additional, short-term bandwidth • Reduce the use of non-essential applications • Stagger testing throughout testing day and across testing window, if possible

  35. Network Considerations • For questions contact: • Bill Mistretta, Director of Technology Services • Pacific Metrics Corporation • bmistretta@pacificmetrics.com
