  1. Narval Meeting 12./13.1.2012 Modifications / Campaign / Roadmap Vortrag > Autor > Dokumentname > Datum

  2. Narval Configuration • Instruments and state • Campaign preparation • Possible roadmap / discussion Vortrag > Autor > Dokumentname > Datum

  3. Narval Mission Instruments -> E-Mail Lutz Hirsch 25.11.2011 • WALES • HAMP • HALO-SR • Mini DOAS • Dropsondes Vortrag > Autor > Dokumentname > Datum

  4. Modifications • HALO-SR -> flown in Techno Mission but only under permit to fly! • What final steps have to be done??? • WALES -> flown in Techno Mission in another configuration • Certification by DLR -> final steps? • LIDAR Window for Bellypod • Certification by DLR-IPA • Mini-DOAS -> should fly within TACTS Campaign before Narval • Certification by Optimare + DLR • Drop Sondes • Rack (Enviscope/Gomolzig) • Dispenser (construction by DLR-FX done / built / certification tbd by ?) !! Test flights for Dropsondes might by necessary!! • Hamp (various parts) Vortrag > Autor > Dokumentname > Datum

  5. HAMP • Who‘s the responsible design organisation? • Interfaces with DLR design organisation have to be defined! • Radar Risk Analysis? • Radiometer Mounting designed by Aerostruktur -> certified by ? • Radiometer Instrument qualification by ? • Bellypod Section A • Section built by Aerostruktur -> construction witnessed by DLR • Certification have to be ordered! (calculation is done by DLR design organisation at the moment) • R.Uebelacker is currently looking for fEI within DLR-EB • The Bellypod is still flying just under permit to fly due to open certification items: • e.g. Lightning protection (10NM distance to thunderstorms required!) Vortrag > Autor > Dokumentname > Datum

  6. Campaign Modification • Checks the compatibility of various instruments within the aircraft • Weight and Balance • Floorloads • Section Loads • Power consumption • Cabin Safety • … • Have to be ordered • Information about every Modification needed as soon as possible for further documentation (weights / power consumptions / CG‘s within racks or single loads on seat tracks) Vortrag > Autor > Dokumentname > Datum

  7. Roadmap • Approved Data of every modification have to be available for campaign modification latest End of September 2012 -> in order to get things done in time it is necessary to fix the layout with DLR-FX as soon as possible. (known weights / power consumption /…) Contact: Sebastian Burwitz. Vortrag > Autor > Dokumentname > Datum

  8. Finishing of instrument certification Installation Finishing of Campaign Mod Interface Documents Available, Last changes within Cabin layout, Weights / Power consumption. Vortrag > Autor > Dokumentname > Datum

  9. Flight Campaign Preparation • Base of Operation: Oberpfaffenhofen/ Goosebay, Barbados (1-2 OVN) • Measurement Areas (FIR): Europe, Atlantic Ocean, Canada, caribbean,... • Transfer: Transfer = Measurement flight • Request Permits: X-9 Months (Lidar in USA, Canada) • Visiting Target Airports (if necessary): X-6 Months • Infrastructure at Airports: X-6 Months • freight: X-6 Months • Travel organisation: X-4 Months • miscellaneous X-6 Months e.g. sea survival training • Begin: X-9 Months for flight Operation – flight program have to be fixed. MARCH 2012! Vortrag > Autor > Dokumentname > Datum

  10. Needed Information for flightcampaign Preparation • Detailed measurement Area / flight patterns • What‘s needed in Goosebay / Barbados? APU, Hangar,…. • Do we have to ship fright to Goosebay / Barbados? • How many people will be there? (access to aircraft / preparation time before and after flight?! -> allowed working time crew = max. 12h incl. flight preparation and work which have to be done afterwards e.g. work for the next flight) • Who are the scientists aboard the aircraft -> Training! • Do you need instant access to aircraft basic data / assistance by the DLR sensors group? • … Vortrag > Autor > Dokumentname > Datum

  11. Flight campaign • DLR flight operations will coordinate flights with ATC units • At least 2 days will be mandatory to coordinate flights with every involved unit. (first guess!) • Flight time and altitude: • If the aircraft is light it can go high. (so if we have max. fuel aboard to reach the max flight time we can‘t go to the max altitude in the beginning!) • Max. possible fuel / hight will be checked by DLR • Pilots are allowed to work max. 12 hours including flight preparation and work after the flight. Afterwards they have to have a 12 hours break before they are allowed to fly again! • Communication on board • Iridium Telephone is available -> ~$1.60/Min • Internet Access (Inmarsat) is available -> ~$9/Min/channel (64k) Vortrag > Autor > Dokumentname > Datum
