  1. Ansel Adams Photographer By: Hannah Amend

  2. Born in February of 1902 San Fransisco, California. • He was educated by private tutors, his aunt Mary, and his father. • He had inteneded to make a profession off pian playing.

  3. Photography work • He produced his first, Parmelian Prints of the High Sierra, portfolio in 1927. • He soon became sponsered by Albert Bender. This promoted his artwork to more businessmen and started work with commercials. • By the 1930’s he had become a more established photographer. He started focusing more on close up views and details.

  4. Work • Opened his own gallery in San Fransisco. • In 1935, Ansel captured many more photos of the Sierra. One his most famous photogrpahs was from that. Clearing Winter Storm. http

  5. He was one of the founders of the magazine Aperture. • In 1963, Ansel published his fourth portfolio, What Majestic Word. • In 1974, Ansel Adams was the guest of honor in the Recontres d’Arles festival in France.

  6. Did you know? • Adams most of the time stuck with black and white and that’s what he is more known for but he did experiment with color. • You can find some of the artwork at the Center for Creative Photography at the university of Arizona.

  7. Influence • Most of Ansel’s photography was on landscape. He liked the romance of the natural landscape. • If you pay attention to his portfolio’s, they all have a similar theme. All somewhat based on the same type of landscape or a certain locaion.

  8. He ended up getting a tumor in his leg and September of ‘83. • Ansel Adams died April 22, 1983. • He was in the ICU of the community hospital of Monterey, California. • He carries on the Legacy of beautiful photography and won’t ever be forgotten.
