  2. Primary End Use Market For Quality Cullet

  3. Benefits of Using Quality Cullet • We save over a ton of natural resources for every ton of glass recycled at the same time saving valuable landfill space • Recycling glass reduces furnace emissions by 15 - 20% • Recycling glass saves 25 - 32% of the energy used to make glass containers • Glass virtually has an unlimited life, it can be recycled over and over again • Using cullet significantly increases furnace life for glass manufacturing facilities

  4. 2004 Glass Container Shipments By Category Non-Alcoholic Beverages 75% of glass container shipments are for beverages SOURCE: DEPARTMENT OF COMMERCE, BUREAU OF THE CENSUS

  5. Collection Systems / Where to get cullet: • Curbside • Drop-off • Unused inventory • In-house cullet • Commercial --- on-premise (hotels, restaurants and bars)

  6. GLASS CONTAINER PRODUCERS Industrial Customers Beverage Food Other Other Bottlers Packagers Residential Business Industrial Separated Glass Co-Mingled Glass Deposit System Reverse Vending Stream Collection Stream Collection Collection Collection Transportation Transportation RECYCLING MRF Transportation Processor Transportation Cullet Customers

  7. Glass Recycling Trends • Increase in Single Stream collection • Adds to increase in 3 mix vs. color sorted

  8. Reasons Impacts Haulers moving to higher compaction rates Increases amount of recyclables per trip Higher amount of 3mix, higher amount of contaminants, smaller pieces of contamination Nationwide Collection Trends

  9. Glass Container Trends • Continued desire to reduce costs • Continued plant closings • Continued desire to raise quality specifications • Increased demand for quality cullet due to rise in manufacturing energy costs

  10. Supply Quality Container Quantity Demands Container Quality Demands Supply vs. Demand ProblemsCurrent Situation Supply Quantity
