  4. An e-Portfolio is • An information management system that uses electronic media. (WORD/ web authoring platform/PPT) • Learner builds/maintains a digital repository of artifacts • to demonstrate competence and reflect on their learning. • Having access to their records, digital repository, feedback and reflection students can achieve a greater understanding of their individual growth, career planning and CV building. retrieved from http://www.educause.edu/nlii/keythemes/eportfolios.asp

What do e-Portfolios represent? “e-Portfolios focus on growth and development over time and can be seen as a concrete representation of critical thinking and reflection of skills and achievements; implemented through the selection of evidence for goal setting and self evaluation..” (Barrett, 1999, 2000)

Technology enables students to collect and organize more effectively. • Through the use of technology, students can use tools to record their progress over time. • "A culture of evidence asks students to think more deeply about learning to show what they have learned rather than simply choose an answer from a list of multiple choice options.” (Barrett)

  11. The e-Portfolio is a tool to help students: • Think about and plan their future; • Evaluate their progress in conjunction with teachers, parents and counselors; • Identify learning experiences that will help reach their goals; • Demonstrate what they know and can do; • Learn to use, a progressive tool which will be carried forward from year-to-year to recognize vital pieces of their personal, academic, and career development process; and • Record ongoing work and accomplishments on into adulthood.

The e-Portfolio is a tool to help teachers: • Encourage and support best teaching practices and learning opportunities; • Provide a convenient way to collect and sort information that helps students think about where they want to go; • Demonstrate, that outcomes stated in Alberta Learning’s Program of Studies and ICT outcomes and are being met; • Increase student motivation and engagement by connecting learning, to students' personal interests and accomplishments; and • Connect learning to the essential elements of Career Development for students.

  16. Define the Need • This is the most important part of the process. • This is where you would define the difference between what is really happening (is) and what you wish would be happening (should).

Should • 100% complete an e-Portfolio by the end of Grade 12 • 100% complete e-Portfolio in CALM • Each student has artifacts for the 3 categories • 100% goals met as set out by student/teacher/ • Receive 1 credit for completing an e-Portfolio
