  2. Define promotion. Effective methods of advertising your product to the public. • What does promotion do? Makes people aware of your product • List two advantages for each • Advertising-wide coverage & Control of message • Personal selling-Interactivity & Adaptable • Sales promotion- Effective at achieving a quick boost to sales & Encourage customers to trail a product or switch brands • Merchandising-Maximizes sales & operate at the point of sale • Public relations-Achieve favourable publicity about the business & To communicate effectively with customers and other stakeholders • Sponsorship-Common in the worlds of art and sport & Sponsorship should benefit both sides. • Direct Marketing-Easy to test different marketing messages & Can personalize the marketing message.

  3. What is branding? The adoption of values, images, awareness, recognition, quality, features, benefits and name for a product. • Why brand? Obtains legal protection for product features • List 5 products that have been branded so well that we interchange the brand with the product (eg. All mp3 players are called iPods whether they are made by apple or not.) -all chicken nuggets are called Mcnuggets -MP3s are called ipods -all sandwiches are called subs -
