13. What You Should Do
Learn how to read an ESR/OSR/PSR – This is who you are to the Board.
Make sure your record is complete 4-6 months prior to Board.
No missing FITREPs/Awards
No missing Qualifications/AQD’s
Ensure SOY results reach the Board
PHOTO for Officers.
14. What You Should be Doing Discuss FITREPs with your CO.
Lead Early, Lead often. Or
Get Hard Jobs: LCDR, DH, XO, etc.
Do well in hard (all )jobs: Break to the right
Qualifications: EAWS, SWO, 3M, IQ, OOD, CDO etc.
Avoid homesteading in non-fleet concentration areas.
Practice, Practice & Practice early drafting FITREPs

Briefer must interpret career as displayed on ESR/OSR and FITREPs

17. Letters to the Board Keep your letter as brief as possible. (1-2 pages max w/enclosures (missing FITREPS/Awards).
Do not write “Pick Me!” letters.
Do not reiterate career history if it’s in the Record.
Focus letter on objective information that explains ESR/OSR anomalies (e.g., Ranked #4 of 13 as CMC without explanations).
Letter is visible only during review process by briefer. Put detailing-relevant info in the APPLY COMMENTS field.
