  1. Workshop Session: Self Review Tool for Reporting Purpose: To introduce and consider the Self-Review Tool for Reporting in relation to the National Standards

  2. The New NAG • NAG 2A (a) report to students and their parents on the students’ progress and achievement in relation to National Standards. Reporting to parents in plain language in writing must be at least twice a year; • What is the intent of this NAG? • What implications does NAG 2A (a) have for your current reporting processes? • How does this NAG link to your Strategic and Annual Plans and Targets for 2010?

How might these statements guide your strategic planning?From MOE Statement of Intent, 2009 – 2014, Priority Outcome 2; & NAG 2A (a) • Every child attending xyz school will make progress towards reaching the National Standards regardless of their ethnicity, if they have a disability or have special education needs. • The principal and teachers will work towards greater levels of understanding and participation among parents in working with the teacher and their child to support the child’s literacy and numeracy needs. • The school will report to students and their parents on the students’ progress and achievement in relation to National Standards in plain language, in writing, at least twice a year.

  4. Reporting on Progress and Achievement How do you report now and who is involved? Consider: student involvement, parent involvement, written reports, conferences, interviews, informal reporting, student-led conferences, portfolios, BOT reports, Whanau meetings, electronic reporting, etc.

  5. The three questions on the Self Review Tool for Reporting • How do we ensure our reporting clearly describes students progress and achievement? • How do we ensure our students are able to contribute to reporting? • How do we develop effective partnerships with parents, families/whanau?

  6. The Self Reporting Tool Part One • In groups of 3 • Take one question and identify the progression across the levels of Basic, Developing, and Integrated. • Consider and note what evidence would be seen at each level. Part Two • Combine with another group - discuss and compare your findings and the possibilities. • Consider how you might use this tool in your school.

  7. In your school groups… Consider how the Self Review Tool on Reporting may be incorporated into your current self review practices?

Have you considered? • Review your strategic plan and annual plan to include the national standards for this year. • Consider the basic level of the reporting tool first. • Our understanding is that ERO will not be reviewing Reporting in relation to the National Standards until after June. ERO - BOT Self Audit ChecklistERO includes in the Board Assurance Statement (BAS) a question about “readiness to implement” to which the board and principal are asked to attest. • Developed a strategic plan which documents how they are giving effect to the NEGs through their policies, plans and programmes, including those for curriculum, National Standards and assessment? [NAG 2(a)] • Reported to students (enrolled in Years 1–8) and their parents on the students’ progress and achievement in relation to National Standards? and • Reported to parents in plain language at least twice a year? [NAG 2A]
