Service Learning • Service -Learning is a method through which citizenship, academic subjects, skills, and values are taught. Keys to Success- VSU edition Page 391
Benefits of Service Learning • Enriches student learning of course material and "brings books to life and life to books". • Increases awareness of current societal issues as they relate to academic areas of interest. • Develops civic responsibility through active community involvement. • Fosters an ethic of service and civic participation in students who will be tomorrow's volunteers and civic leaders. • Allows the energy and enthusiasm of college students to contribute to meeting needs. • Broadens perspectives of diversity issues and enhances critical thinking skills. http://emedia.leeward.hawaii.edu/servicelearning/benefits.htm
Fun in the Sun • As a fraternity we raised over 2500 dollars to give to the Childrens miracle network. • Without the help of each sorority on campus this would not have been possible. • Through a series of week long events sororities put together teams to compete in competitions for a final winner at the end.
What I have learned • Raising money for those who are less fortunate is a great way to get involved in your community. • Working together to better the good of others makes an individual feel quite appreciated. • You never know how just a little help can go a long way. • Some people don’t choose the situations the are put in so those of us who are less fortunate should appreciate that.
