Registration Timeline • February 1 – Course recommendations available for viewing through Home Access Center • February 1 –March 4 – Online registration through HAC • If you want to make a change to a LOCKED course, you must submit a course change request form by March 4th: http://www.scasd.org/courserequests • March 4 - Course selections mailed home • March 30 – Last chance to change course selections with a signed permission form • August 1 at 8:00 am – Schedules available online with a 10 day window to make schedule changes (schedule change requests close on August 12) • Schedule changes are limited once school begins

  5. What courses will be pre-loaded and locked? • You will need parent permission to change the following recommendations: • English • Science • Social Studies • Math • World Language • PE • Drivers Ed –the marking period before your 16th birthday

  6. English and Social Studies • ENGLISH OPTIONS: • Advanced English 10 • English 10 • SOCIAL STUDIES OPTIONS: • Advanced World History II • World History II

  7. Math Options: • Advanced Geometry • College Prep Geometry • Geometry (is not NCAA approved) • Advanced Algebra 2 • College Prep Algebra 2 • Advanced Honors Precalculus • Advanced Precalculus • Precalculus • Some of you will be in higher math levels

  8. Science Options: • Advanced Biology 1 • Biology 1 • Biology –will not be offered Some of you may be taking Advanced Chemistry 1 or higher

  9. Physical Education and Health PE OPTIONS: (Did you complete PE 9?) • Select PE (.50 Credit) NEW! • Fitness and Exercise Science (.50 Credit) • Lifeguarding Health (if not completed in 9th grade): • Wellness 9 (.50 Credit)

  10. World Languages Options Spanish French German Arabic Latin Mandarin Chinese- you must see Ms. Abruzzo in the LE classroom

  11. Classroom Driver Safety Education - Required for Graduation - • Driver Safety will be pre-loaded and locked for the marking period before your 16th birthday. • **************************************** • Not Required: In Car Drivers Ed • Contact Community Education • There is a Fee

Where is the Course Selection Guide? **As 9th graders you will not receive a Course Selection Guide** You may access the Course Selection Guide online There will be links on the State College School District Homepage and on HAC http://www.scasd.org/courserequests Feel free to stop in the Counseling Center and use one of our copies. LONG TERM CONSIDERATIONS • 22.5 Credits Minimum to Graduate From High School • Prerequisites for courses in 11th and 12th grade • Courses offered in alternating years- Science electives • Colleges Have Different Requirements • World Language ? • Math ? • Science ? • Fine Arts ? • Requirements For PIAA & NCAA

  15. Community Service • You will need to complete 20 hours of community service by May 1 of your senior year. • Make sure you fill out a form each time you complete hours. Turn completed forms into Counseling. • Forms can be found in LE, Counseling Offices and online. • For more information on opportunities see Community Service on the Counseling website.

  16. Graduation Project (GP) You can start thinking about what you would like to do for a graduation project. You can begin it in 10th grade and finish it in 11th or 12th grade. Most of you will complete this in your 11th or 12th grade English class. Two Ways to Register for a Graduation Project: 1. Enroll in a project course and do a project. GP courses are identified with a cap and diploma in the course selection guide. 2. Make independent arrangements with a teacher/counselor to do a Graduation Project.

  17. Transcript Check You have received a copy of your transcript. The grades listed are from the first marking period. This transcript is a very important document It is the single most critical data point considered for college acceptance Make sure that all of your courses are listed and that the grades are correct. If you think there is an error please make corrections and hand it back to your counselor.

Remember… • Follow Your Teacher Recommendations. • Talk With Your Counselor If You Have More Questions. • Talk Over Your Course Selection With Your Parents/ Guardians. • You are building your high school transcript which will be used for college, job, military and scholarship opportunities. • Get Involved In Clubs, Sports and Activities. How to Select Courses • Go to the District Home Page, select “For Students“ and then “Home Access Center” • Log in using your State High Credentials • Select “High School Course Request Directions” for directions • Select “Classes” and then “Request” tab to enter course requests. • To change “locked” courses, fill out Course Request Change Form and return to counseling office by March 4 • To add a Virtual Course – You will need to go to the Virtual School website. You will have to use a credit card to pay for the course. Once we receive notification you are enrolled, we will remove the course from your schedule.
