  1. Welcome to Room 121!

  2. All about Mrs. Dunning! • I have a Bachelor’s of Education in Math and Elementary Education from the University of Miami in FL and a Master’s of Education in Elementary and Special Education from Cambridge College in MA • I have taught first grade for a year and a half and fifth grade for half a year in Miami, and I taught 8th grade math last year in Lavernia, TX. • I worked as a professional aide with 2nd and 3rd grade students with autism in Belmont, MA for 3 years. • My husband Bruno and I have been married for 3 years and we have a fur baby (cat) named Tucker.

  11. Math • BE SURE AND LOG ONTO FIRST IN MATH AT HOME!!! www.firstinmath.com • Students’ user name is their ID number, and their password is their ID number with abc after it (no spaces!) • We have been learning addition and graphing and now will start shapes.

  12. Language Arts • We have been working hard building our stamina for our Daily 5 rotations. So far we have been practicing the two stations: Read to Self and Work on Writing • We will be starting on: Read to Someone Listen to Reading Word Work

  13. Social Studies We learn a lot about rules and community in first grade. We have been learning about past, present and future this six weeks. Did you help your student complete their timeline?

  14. Science • We have been learning about observable properties this six weeks. Ask your child about the size, shape, texture and weight of objects to help reinforce those concepts.

  15. Computers • We have four computers in our classroom that we share with one another. We take turns during our Power Hour and also at various times during the day. We also go to computers during our specials, and we have a scheduled computer • lab time.

  17. Homework • Students will now be using a BEE binder to carry their agendas, spelling spirals, notes from home and school and homework in. They will also have pockets of resources to use at home to help with homework. These binders go back and forth from home and school every day. • Students will write homework down in their agendas every day. Please check their agenda to know which assignments they should be working on at home. Agendas will travel back and forth between home and school in the BEE binder. • Each student has a spelling spiral that they use to write their spelling words in. They bring this back and forth from home and school in their BEE binder.

Homework • Students read 20 minutes (or listen to someone read to them) nightly and record the name of the book in their reading log. • Students will practice spelling words for the week using the strategy written in their agenda. (e.g. Wacky words, Silly sentences, 3 x each, Rainbow words) • .

  20. When you are absent… • Remember to send a note for your child’s absence within 3 days or the absence will be unexcused.
