  3. HERE IS A PICTURE OF WILLIAM CRAWSHAY 2nd 1788 -1867 was the son of William Crawshay 1st, the owner of Cyfarthfa ironworks in Merthyr Tydfil, South Wales William Crawshay II became an ironmaster when he took over the business from his father. He was known as the 'Iron King'. He was responsible for the building of Cyfarthfa Castle in the 1820s and also of the present Caversham Park in Oxfordshire (now Berkshire) in 1850. He retired to Caversham in 1847, and his son, Robert Thompson Crawshay, carried on the South Wales business.

  4. HERE IS SOME INFO Cyfarthfa Castle was built in 1824 and it was built by William Crawshay but obviously he did not built it him self. I think he built it because he wanted to see a view of the iron works. Cyfarthfa castle was designed by Robert Lugar the architect . The castle cost £30,000 to build and about 2,000 quarried stones . The castle was owned by the Crawshay family who were a family of 6 people. The Crawshay family left Cyfarthfa Castle in the year 1889 and they decided to sell the house in 1908. In the year 1970 Cyfarthfa Castle was turned into comprehensive school under the name Cyfarthfa high school.
