  1. Listening To Christ Who Better To Listen To Than Our Loving Savior And Our Master And Lord

  2. Listening As Our Teacher • Listening to Jesus as our Teacher, we shall be instructed by Him • Luke 10:39 • And she had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet and listened to his teaching • Unless one sit at Jesus’ feet, they will not be comfortable about the serving • It is not enough to get all right for the Lord; the first thing is to be right with and in the Lord

  3. Listening As Our Captain • Listening to Jesus as our Captain, we shall have victory through Him • 1 Timothy 6:12 • Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called and about which you made the good confession in the presence of many witnesses • This faithfastens on Jesus Christ as the sum and substance, the head and completeness, of God’s good will to man • It is the infallible proof, which nothing can detract from, of God’s purpose of love to man; as the immovable rock of man’s salvation • This fight continues until Christ brings us home

  4. Listening As Our Guide • Listening to Jesus as our Guide, we shall be led safely by Him • Matthew 28:19-20 • Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age • It is because Jesus has plenary authority, and can delegate power to whom he will, that he confers the commission to make disciples • Jesus guides us in carrying the gospel throughout the world

  5. Listening As Our Lover • Listening to Jesus as our Lover, we shall be jealous for Him • John 14:15 • "If you love me, you will keep my commandments • Jesus lays out the relation of love to obedience, obedience producing love, and love suggesting obedience and supplying it with motive • We must guard these command of Jesus as a sacred deposit, obey them as the only reasonable response you can make to authoritative command

  6. Listening As Our Lord • Listening to Jesus as our Lord, we shall render service to Him • John 13:13-15 • You call me Teacher and Lord, and you are right, for so I am. 14 If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet. 15 For I have given you an example, that you also should do just as I have done to you • The service demanded by Jesus is the self-forgetting ministry of love, which places the interests of self behind and below those of others • This sentence of our Lord is a noble illustration of the method in which a great principle is made by him the basis of a small duty

  7. Listening As Our Helper • Listening to Him as our Helper, we shall be upheld by Him • Isaiah 41:10 • Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand • This verse is a continuation of from 8 & 9 which shows a great tenderness on the part of the Lord • I am with you and I will ehlp you • I will strengthen you • I will uphold you • While primarily they declare past favors, they may also be regarded as prophetic of future ones, since “with God is no variableness

  8. Listening As Our Shepherd • Listening to Jesus as our Shepherd, we shall follow Him • John 10:27 • My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me • This passage displays the climacteric character of the wondrous rhythm and interchange of emotion between the Divine Shepherd and the sheep • My sheep hear my voice, and I know them - mutual recognition • They follow me, and I give them eternal life - reciprocal activity • They shall not perish forever, and no one shall pluck them out of my hand - an authoritative assurance, and its pledge or justification
