  2. The Heritage – WWII Coastal Patrol • CAP volunteers flew 24 million miles on anti-submarine patrol during 18 months • We spotted 173 submarines, attacked 57 and sank two • CAP summoned aide for 91 ships in distress and helped rescue 363 survivors swain.dcoffice@capnhq.gov

CAP is a Unique Organization → CAP flies about 80 percent of all daily missions flown by 1st Air Force, AFNORTH (about 70,000 hours in 2007) → “I encourage all Air Force leaders who deal with contingency actions to take a close look at CAP augmentation during operations. Their skill set and capabilities are a smart addition to a commander’s overall toolkit. SDIS – Satellite Digital Imaging System • Technology that enables CAP to send high resolution digital imagery from CAP aircraft to anyone anywhere in the world • Images are sent as JPEG attachments via standard e-mail to multiple addresses and/or a password-protected website • Imagery is transmitted near real-time. Files take less than 2 minutes to transmit. * * Globalstar satellites are currently having problems and will be replaced in 2009 swain.dcoffice@capnhq.gov

ARCHER – Hyperspectral Imaging System Spectral signature matching: detects specific spectral signatures using matched filters (find things with known spectral properties) Anomaly detection: detects spectral anomalies (things that do not “belong”) Change detection: detects changes over time through a pixel-by-pixel comparison. • ARCHER recently used for • Oil spill data for EPA and USGS • Assisting with Fossett search • Assisting CA with vegetation and soil analysis after wildfires • Finding F15 parts from MO crash Sortie 2 Sortie 1 swain.dcoffice@capnhq.gov
