2. Ohio History Fourth Grade Social Studies

3. Rationale • Students must understand the the foundations of Ohio in regards to its past, people, and institutions.

4. Goal • The students can learn different aspects of Ohio history including its past, people, and institutions. • With this knowledge, the students will be able to apply their understanding as a group and on an individual basis.

5. Objectives • Students will: • Explain the importance of Ohio’s resources and what they are used for. • Explore how Ohio’s cultural background was developed. • Understand Ohio’s historical eras, documents and artifacts.

6. More Objectives • Students will: • Use maps to locate and identify Ohio’s different culture. • Understand the functions of Ohio’s state and local governments. • Understand issues facing Ohio’s local and state governments.

American Heritage Activities • Discuss the seal of Ohio as a prominent symbol of the state and then have each student redesign the symbol. • Have students follow the migration routes of pioneers marking them on a map. • Have students write a newspaper article on an historical event that happened in Ohio.
