The global language of business About GS1 UK • Dedicated to the design and implementation of global standards and solutions to improve the efficiency and visibility of supply and demand chains globally and across sectors • GS1 system of standards is the most widely used supply chain standards system in the world • Over 30 years as an independent, profit neutral association • Part of the global GS1 network with over 1,200,000 member companies in 108 countries • GS1 UK owns the GS1 UK Data Pool (TrueSource), the only GS1 certified Data Pool in the UK

  4. Sainsbury’s Business Drivers • Improve the quality of product data • Speeds item introduction and creation • Simplification of data management processes • Enables electronic review and approval processes • Reduce out of stocks

Sainsbury’s Business Processes • Sainsbury’s will use data provided via the GDSN for the following business processes: • Synchronising the existing product set (back catalogue) to ensure that the product data held by the supplier and Sainsbury’s is correct and aligned. • Updating changes to product information. • At this point in time Sainsbury’s are not using GDSN for new product introductions. • New lines should continue via the existing new lines process, and followed up by a publication via the GDSN. • New lines via GDSN will follow in a later phase. This will include the capture of relationship dependant data and attributes specifically required by Sainsbury’s that are not currently supported with in the GDS standards.

Timescales • Sainsbury’s attribute list may contain attributes than you don’t currently populate • To maintain momentum, publish items with attributes you currently have populated • First publication of existing attributes to their data pool should be by Monday 31th December 2010 • Remaining attributes should be populated by 28th January 2011

  9. What is a GS1 certified Data Pool? Online web-service which allows suppliers to share their product in a standardised form with their trading partners. Over 100,000 live items on the GS1 UK Data Pool service, over 5 million globally. Accessible by the web or by an automated machine to machine implementation Growth of GDSN in UK Marketplace

Data Accuracy • Improved data accuracy is one of the key objectives • Prior to publishing data to Sainsbury’s please review your product attributes to ensure that your product data is current and accurate • If you have any queries around data accuracy and the processes required to achieve it then GS1UK or your data pool will be able to provide advice

Next Steps • Reactivate your GDS subscription, if not currently active • Obtain the Sainsbury’s supplier hand book and review your product data • Book onto a 10 minute introduction to the new TrueSource user interface • GS1 UK will contact you to issue your TrueSource access details and Quick Start guide for the new user interface • Publish existing items through GDSN to Sainsbury’s (GLN: 5010012000009)
