  6. The Seven Most Important Events • May 17, 1954: Brown v. Board of Education was decided. • August 28, 1954: Emmet Till was murdered for whistling at a white woman. • December 1, 1955: Rosa Parks refused to give up her bus seat for a white person. • December 1955-December 1956: People refused to ride the bus in protest. • September 4, 1957: The military prevented 9 black students from entering an all white high school. • July 2, 1964: The Civil Rights Act of 1964 was passed. • September 15, 1963: A church for blacks was bombed.

  7. Why the Events were important • Brown v. Board of Education • It was important because it ended segregation. • Emmet Till was killed • It was important because he was a black teenager who whistled at a white, something that was illegal. It cause people to be mad and protest even more. • Rosa Parks refused to give up her bus seat • It was important because it caused people to become angry and led to the next event. • The bus boycott • It was important because people were angry and decided to tell everyone how they felt. • Military stopped 9 black students from entering a school for whites. • It was important because segregation in schools had already ended, but the kids were still discriminated against. • A black church was bombed • It was important because the church was bombed only because the people at it were white. • The Civil Rights Act of 1964 • It was important because it legally ended segregation.
