  1. Accountability • Competence • Traceability What this means for Fire Doorsets and how this may change going forwards

  2. Accountability Latest MHCLG documentation “Building a Safer Future. An Implementation Plan6” references MHCLG Advice Note 16: Government Building Safety Programme – advice for building owners on assurance and replacing of flat entrance fire doors Advice for building owners on assurance and replacing of flat entrance fire doors. ” it is imperative that doorsets are designed to meet all of the relevant requirements in one package i.e. the same specification.” And highlights the importance of third party certified fire doorsets.

  3. Accountability Government testing of GRP composite and current testing of timber doorsets Government have conducted impact assessment on test standards and extended field of application Government have asked certification bodies to review certification

  4. Accountability – product type BS EN 12519 defines a doorset as “a complete unit consisting of a door frame and a door leaf or leaves, supplied with all essential parts from a single source.” Doorset = an end product From a single source manufacturer Responsibility lies with the manufacturer.

  5. Competence - Design & Testing Energy conservation Sound transmission Impact protection Flat Entrance Doorset Designed and tested for its function Building regulation compliant through independent UKAS accredited test houses to industry standards Same design specification is used for all testing. Accessibility Security Fire Safety Smoke Leakage Fire rated flat entrance doorset FD30S

  6. Competence – Design & Testing Primary test evidence More primary test evidence permits extended field of application and capability to meet solutions Assessments/exaps will always be necessary to pull together test data Future: Extend primary testing and restrict assessments Fire Safety

  7. Competence – Design & Testing Current: Based on primary test evidence: BS476-31.1 or EN 1634-3 Future: Classification standards link EN1634-1 fire test & EN1634-3 smoke test Smoke leakage Cold smoke test for doorset to EN 1634-3 or BS 476-31.1 Based on the same doorset design specification as for the fire test. (So smoke seals in doorset construction will have undergone fire test)

  8. Competence – Design & Testing Full scale test evidence to both sides

  9. Competence – Design & Testing Tests to EN 1634-1

  10. Competence – Maintenance Under the RR(FS)O, section 38(1) and 17 (1), fire doorsets must be maintained. • Maintenance • Manufacturers • Know their design • Know their test evidence • Draw on their extensive • test data Correct maintenance makes the difference in performance.

  11. Competence – Installation “Making sure the installer has sufficient instruction with which to proceed” BM Trada

  12. Traceability – complete doorset from single source • Residential flat entrance doorset • Fire labelling (plug or label) linked to third party certification • Security labelling linked to third party certification • Secured by Design PAS 24 labelling • Residential flat entrance doorset • Product Warranty • Test evidence summary • Certificate of conformity • Third party certification listing the doorset name & its performance characteristics • O&M Manual • Residential flat entrance doorset • Relating to complete doorset • EN1634-1 or BS 476-22 • Associated fire test assessment • EN 1634-3 or BS 476-31.1 • PAS 24:2016 • EN ISO 10077 • EN ISO 10140 • BS 6375-1 • BS 6375-2 • All listing the doorset name & performance characteristics

  13. Traceability – complete doorset from single source 3.36The dutyholder will be responsible for maintaining the ‘golden thread’ of information about the building structure and materials, detailing the maintenance, testing and inspection routine…… Building a Safer Future Dame Judit Hackitt • Doorset DNA in label • Record of installation / repairs / all inspection / maintenance with photos • Straight-forward App • Comprehensive reports
