THE REBELLION OF KORAHNumbers 16 • Morale was low after the extra 38 years in the wilderness began • Leadership is questioned, challenged • Korah (first cousin to Moses), Dathan & Abiram (Reubenites) led the uprising • 250 prominent men joined them v.2 • “too much” v.3 • “All the congregation of the Lord is holy. Why do you exalt yourselves above God’s people?” • The Lord will demonstrate the one whom He chooses to serve Him “too much” v.5-7

THE REBELLION OF KORAH • God has given you an important task v.8-10 • Adding to God’s specific choice is opposing God v.11 • Dathan & Abiram invited to the showdown but refuse v.12-14 • Very twisted ideas expressed in criticism • All to offer incense v.16-19 • Outcome already determined v.20-21 • God spared the assembly v.20-34 • God proved to Israel that Korah, Dathan & Abiram were rebellious

THE REBELLION OF KORAH • Fire from God killed the 250 offering worship to God v.35 • Offering still holy but the men were notv.36-40 • Israel’s stubborn reaction! v.41 • Aaron saves those who criticize him v.42-50 • 14,700 die before Aaron could quickly offer the incense • One more sign 17:1-11 dead wood produces living fruit Hebrews 7:16 deadbodyraised to liveforever and produce usasfirstfruitsJames 1:18 • Lesson learned 17:12-13

THE REBELLION OF KORAH • “God didn’t say not to” is not authority to do something • No specific prohibition required • A general prohibition already given Matt. 15:13 • Don’t go “too much” 1 Cor. 4:6; 2 John 9-11 • Thoughallareequalin Christ Galatians 3:28, God has specified specific roles for specific persons 1 Cor. 12:1-29; 14:33-37 • The goodness and severity of God Rom. 11:22 • God’s goodness is conditional
