What is MyVCCCD? • MyVCCCD is a Single Sign-On web portal, which delivers targeted contentand services to its users. • Single Sign-On: Login once and gain access to multiple campus software systems. • Web Portal: Web site that presents information from diverse sources in a unified way. • Targeted: Available content and services are based on user needs and functions. • Users: Students, Faculty, Staff; MyVCCCD is NOT a public web site.

  4. What MyVCCCD Can Do for You • Provide a single point of access for many applications used in your day-to-day tasks. • Provide targeted information that is relevant to you (and hopefully reduce the need for AllUsers email). • Eliminate the need to remember multiple user names and passwords.

What You Will Learn Today • Learn how the MyVCCCD portal can improve communication and streamline day-to-day tasks • Learn the features and terms • Learn how to customize MyVCCCD to best meet your needs • Learn how to join a group site for collaboration • Learn how to login to WebMail via MyVCCCD • Learn what to do if you need help with MyVCCCD

Terms to Know • Theme (or Skin): A set of colors, fonts, logos, and icons that changes the look of a web site without affecting its functionality • Role: a set of access permissions which determine what you see and what you can do. Examples: Faculty, Staff, Student, Administrator • Tab: a navigational tool allowing you to move between pages • Channel: a content delivery tool providing information via a framed box within a tab • Tool: Icon for commonly used task. Appears on every “in-frame” portal page.

Exercise 1: First Time Login • Open an internet browser and go to http://my.vcccd.edu/ • User Name • For classified staff who have been set up with Active Directory, it is the first part of your computer login (do not include @ad). • For faculty who have NOT been set up with Active Directory, it is the first part of your email address (usually first initial, last name). • Password • For employees who have been set up with Active Directory, it is your computer password. • For others not on AD it is passXXXX (where XXXX is the last 4 digits of your SSN). • Click Login. • Submit your Secret Questions and Answers. • Click the Logout tool on the navigation bar.

  9. Exercise 1: First Time Login (cont’d) Password Synchronization (Single Sign On) • Loginagain with your computer information. • You should see a Password Expired message. Create a new password and save your changes. • The password must not contain any of these special characters: '@$(),<>=#"&;` • Click to enter the portal! IMPORTANT: Your computer and Banner INB passwords are now the same.

Your Landing Page • Your theme will be the VCCCD theme. • Note that the tabs are based on your role • My College, Work Life, Employee Resources, Faculty Resources, Banner Testing, My Tab • Channels on My College tab will be relevant to your college. • Note the buttons on each channel • Some are “pushed” and can’t be deleted • Others can be deleted and re-added later

  15. Accessing My Applications • Under Banner Applications, click Banner • First time, you will get an alert regarding a password change. Click to continue. • Banner opens in a new window. • Under Webstar, click Personal Information • Personal Information Menu opens “in-frame.” • Click Back to Work Life Tab to return. • Under External Applications, click Blackboard Vista. • Blackboard Vista opens in a new window.

  16. Exercise 2: Add a Channel • Go to My Tab • Click the Content Layout link • Click My Tab • Click a New Channel button. • Select All categories. Click the Go button. • Select the Bookmarks-Simple channel. • Click the Add Channel button. • Click Back to My Tab link.

  17. Exercise 3: Add a Bookmark • Click the bookmark icon with the plus (+) sign. • Enter a Bookmark Title: Google • Enter a URL: http://www.google.com • Click the Add button. • Click the ‘Google’ link to test the bookmark.

Group Studio Activity Channel • Group Studio gives students, faculty and employees the ability to create and manage group homepages for clubs or other affiliations and interests • There are three types of groups – public, restricted, and hidden • Anyone will be able to request a group; group approval process still to be determined

  19. Exercise 4: Join A Group • Click the Groups tool • Click Groups Index link • Open the MyVCCCD folder • Click the link for the Portal Employee Training group • Click Join Group • Complete the Required Information boxes • Click Join

Exercise 5: Monitor your Groups • When you join a new group, you must add it to your Group Studio Activity Channel to monitor the latest activity • Click the Edit button on the Group Studio Activity Channel • Choose Select All Groups and Select All Applications • Click the Save Changes button. Then click Done.

  22. E-mail • Click the E-mail tool. • When prompted, login using your WebMail information (you will only have to do this once…after this, it’s SSO!) • If you’ve never used WebMail, your password will be your 6-digit Date of Birth (MMDDYY)

MyVCCCD Tips • Help is always available via the Help tool • You can add the Tutorial channel for easy access to FAQs • You can add the Site Map channel to easy locate channels within MyVCCCD • If you forget your password: • Click the Forget Password? Link • Follow the steps for the Secret Questions and Answers Login • Enter a new Password and login!

  25. Notes • REMEMBER: Your login for Banner, Webmail and your campus computer are now the same as MyVCCCD! When you return to your desk, log off and logon to synchronize. • While using Outlook desktop client you will be prompted to authenticate. Enter login information. Check the box to save your password. • The initial roll-out of MyVCCCD is limited to Faculty and Staff. Second phase will provide availability to Students. • More features will become available as they are ready.
