In our Comenius Project at Liceo Galileo Galilei, we investigated air quality in Pescara and surrounding regions. We focused on fixed monitoring units located in areas such as L’Aquila and Chieti and studied local conditions near the D’Annunzio Theatre. Our findings emphasize that poor air quality, mainly due to urban emissions from traffic and heating, poses serious health risks. We supported initiatives to ban car traffic in Pescara, leading to an improved air quality after implementing measures to restrict vehicular access. Continuous monitoring and public awareness are vital for protecting our environment.

We have analyzed the following aspects: • the quality of the air in our city • the fixed units in our region (such as in L’Aquila, BussisulTirino, Chieti, Atessa) • the fixed units in our city (such as in the area nearby our D’Annunzio Theatre) • Banning car traffic in Pescara • collecting data and • comparing data
The qualityof air The bad air quality in citiesisamong the mostcriticalenviromentalproblemsin Italy. This is due to the fact that the largest percentage of the population lives in urban areas, where there is the greatest quantity of emission coming from traffic, domestic heating and productive activities.

Banningcartraffic in Pescara One of the initiatives promoted by the Province of Pescara useful to alleviate pollution in our city, was closing streets to cars in some streets every Thursday from the 22/03/2012 to the 12/04/2012. Collected data, concerning five main areas in Pescara, were examined to monitor the general pollution in the area of our city.
