  4. How?

  5. Capture Interest

  6. Background • Aging population(>65), most rapidly growing subset is people over 80 • Estimated 4-5million people in Canada with out a GP • Rising Nursing Shortage • Specialists retiring faster than they are being replaced • Costs continue to rise above budgets • Microorganisms continue to “outsmart” us by becoming resistant

  7. We R extremely Vulnerable to Crises… SARS Blackout H1N1 G20 Mass Gatherings…

  8. Everywhere..

  9. How we respond has changed

  10. Social Network Methods Information coming in real-time from people on the ground People connecting and self-organize This monitored by experts We are becoming agile and adaptive

  11. Agility Is about making decisions rapidly, often without sufficient information When you see the tools used in disaster now, you are seeing the creative decision making processes of networked collaboration

  12. Strategy • Strategy “maneuvering the troops into position before the enemy is engaged” • Objectives “Position towards we are heading” • Tactics “detailed direction and control aimed at achieving objectives”

  13. Bring this into today • We need to determine our engagement strategies • Identify in priority who we are going to engage • Allow autonomy to prevail, and self-organization through idea sharing to be the dominant way we will achieve direction and control

  14. Step One • Our Identity must something that has no interpretation • A combination of a few letters and or numbers that is easy to remember e.g. J90

  15. Step 2 Choose our Public Face

  16. Softer

  17. Engagement • Identify the order in which are going to engage • Offer Autonomy • Support Self Organization • Provide Games or Sandboxes in which to play • See who has the passion and move them to an inside team to build the program further
