History • Td banks which has been in business for over 150 years, who first opened in Portland and Maine in 1852. the bank later grew due to a series of mergers and became known as people banks in 1983, At the end of the nineties the had a chance to expand to new England with a few acquisitions and became know as north bank. In 2004 Bank north seemed to be interested in the TD Bank groups of Canada. which at the time it was a top 10 financial services company in North America. Over a short period of time after TD Bank Group became Banknorth’s majority shareholder. After wards the company became know as TD banknorth. In 2007 TD bank group completely bought banknorth over. So they were looking to take over the u.s area the decided to join forces with commerce bank in 2008. Then the company was renamed to td bank. Later in 2010 they acquired the south financial group inc which came with the Carolina First Bank in North and South Carolina and Mercantile Bank. Who were later rebranded to td bank. Today td bank is fouced on bringing their customers award winning services.
