We focus on the building blocks of a good life: Education, Self-Sufficiency, and Health We partner with 28 community agencies to meet the needs of our community.     7. These are the agencies that focus on health—by strengthening families children and individuals. Some examples of those services include: Individual counseling services Classes in developing parenting skills Intervention in family crisis and domestic violence Providing healthy recreational and educational activities for youth Mentoring children through positive and influential role models Here are a few examples: Big Brothers Big Sisters provides a teen mentorship opportunity through it’s Teaming Up With YOUth program. Unlike their traditional program, this program meets at area schools to focus on socialization skills and homework support. Family & Children’s Services – provides group and individual counseling, parenting programs, pre-and post-natal services, childcare resources and youth emergency services. Railway Family Center, Midland Community Center, North Midland Family Center and West Midland Family Center – maintain services in different geographic areas to offer constructive, age-appropriate programs for children and teens to help with socialization, self esteem and school readiness, as well as skill building workshops for their parents. Your Donations in Action “Snippet” Illustrations $3 allows one child to participate in “Count Me In” $40 provides a year’s worth of books for a child Impact of Your Support Ten Sixteen provided over 4,300 days of residential care for people struggling with addiction. Railway Family Center served over 275 families and filled over 750 pantry requests. These are just a few examples of how your support of United Way is having a significant impact on our friends and neighbors in need.     20. How Much to Give Consider pledging the equivalent of 60 or 100 minutes of pay per month .6% x gross earnings 1.0% x gross earnings Every single contribution has an impact in our community! You may be asked: “How much should I give”? United Ways across the country have developed a suggested guide for generous pledging. The “Time to Care” guidelines ask donors to consider pledging the equivalent of 60 minutes or 100 minutes pay per month.     21. Leadership Circle members represent the true legacy donors in our community. Much like Olympic awards, we have Bronze, Silver and Gold members. Our Tocqeuville donors, those that give $10,000 and above would be our platinum givers. LC givers can be an individual gift or the combined gift of you and your spouse. In 2009, nearly $2 million of the $4.9 million raised was through LC members. Leadership Circle members represent the true legacy donors in our community. Much like Olympic awards, we have Bronze, Silver and Gold members. Our Tocqeuville donors, those that give $10,000 and above would be our platinum givers.     22. Our Young Leaders Society started in 2009 and is comprised of young, civic-minded donors who are under 40. These emerging leaders demonstrate their commitment to change in our community by contributing $500 or more. In 2009, we recognized 65 Young Leaders contributing a total of $64,553.     23. We are very fortunate to have a long-standing challenge grant provided by the Herbert H. and Grace A. Dow Foundation. The challenge grant is valued at $155,000--$115,000 for LC and $40,000 for Tocqueville. We have historically always received the full grant amount each year. Leadership Circle grant is open to first time donors of $1,000 or more or existing members stepping up by $500 or more. Labor Leads matches new donations by those in a local union that donate $500 or more or those who step-up with $500 or more. Tocqueville grant matches first time $10,000 or more donors or those stepping up $5,000 or more. This can be a great tool to motivate those that are already giving close to that level. Step 1: Fill out your name, address and email Step 2: Choose your method of payment and amount of your gift Payroll Deduction Cash or Check Credit Card Direct Bill – by selecting this option, you will also have the option to donate via check, credit card, or gift of stock. Leadership Giving (if you qualify with an individual or combined-spouse gift of $1,000 or more) Choose Leadership Circle / Labor Leads Fill out your name and other information Step 3: Sign and date the card Acknowledgement Please select if you would like to be acknowledged for your United Way contribution.
