  1. Who is the Holy Spirit?

  2. Difficulties Surrounding Holy Spirit • He is not like us! • We tend to at times overreact to false teachings of other religious groups. • We haven’t realized how many times we have studied about the Holy Spirit

  3. Who is the Holy Spirit? • The Holy Spirit is a “Personal” Being • The Holy Spirit is God • The Holy Spirit is NOT the Father or the Son “The holy spirit is not a person and it is not a part of a Trinity. The holy spirit is God’s active force that he uses to accomplish his will. . . . To a certain extent, it can be likened to electricity.”[1] [1]Should You Believe in the Trinity? New York: The Watchtower Bible and Tract Soc., 1989

  4. A Personal Being • “Of how much worse punishment, do you suppose, will he be thought worthy who has trampled the Son of God underfoot, counted the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified a common thing, and insulted the Spirit of grace?” • Personal Pronouns: over 20 times • He hears (John 16:13) • He speaks (Acts 8:29) • He has a will (Acts 8:29) • He teaches (Luke 12:12) • He loves (Rom 15:30) • He can be lied to (Acts 5:3) • He can be blasphemed (Mt 12:31-32) • He can be insulted (Heb 10:29) • He directs Paul where to preach (Acts 13:2, 16:6-7) • " Now I urge you, brethren, by our Lord Jesus Christ and by the love of the Spirit, to strive together with me in your prayers to God for me " (also see Romans 5:5) • “Therefore I say to you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven men, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven men.” • But Peter said, “Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and keep back part of the price of the land for yourself? • "for the Holy Spirit will teach you in that very hour what you ought to say " "But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth; for He will not speak on His own initiative, but whatever He hears, He will speak; and He will disclose to you what is to come.” • And the Spirit said to Philip, "Go up and join this chariot." Acts 8:29 (also see Acts 10:19; 13:2) • All these are empowered by one and the same Spirit, who apportions to each one individually as he wills. -1 Cor 12:11

  5. Deity of Holy Spirit • Holy Spirit called God: Acts 5:3-4 “But Peter said, "Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and to keep back some of the price of the land? 4 "While it remained unsold, did it not remain your own? And after it was sold, was it not under your control? Why is it that you have conceived this deed in your heart? You have not lied to men but to God.”

  6. Deity of Holy Spirit • Active In Creation (Genesis 1:2; 26; Job 33:4) “The earth was formless and void, and darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was moving over the surface of the waters…Then God said, ‘Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness’” (Gen 1:2, 26) “The Spirit of God has made me, and the breath of the Almighty gives me life” (Job 33:4).
