  1. PARABOLAS Katia Tellez P. 2 Precalculus 1A Mr. Caballero Fall Semester

  2. A little History of Parabola • The conic section were discover by a man name Menaechmus during the fourth century B.C. He found out how to solve a problem by doubling a cube using the parabolas. • The name of the Parabola is due to a man named Apollonius that discover many Properties of the conics sections. • Pappus discover the focus–directrixproperty of the parabola and other conics. • Galileo showed that the path of a projectile follows a parabola a consequence of uniform acceleration due to gravity

  3. What is a parabola • The Parabola is a Conic Section (Is a curve that obtained by intersecting a right conical surface which it is the surface formed by the union of all the straight lines that passes through the apex or vertex) obtain by intersecting a cone with a plane graph.

  4. How are parabolas used in life? The parabolic trajectory of projectiles was discovered experimentally by Galileo in the early 17 century performed experiments with balls rolling on inclined planes. In the picture note that the ball becomes significantly non- spherical after each bounce the air resistance causes the curve swept out to a slightly from the expected perfect parabola.

  5. What are some parabolas sections • The formula of the parabola is

  6. The Vertical of Symmetry (x-h) =4p(y-k) Y= (x-h) over 4p + K Y= ax + bx+ K Where a = 1 over 4p b= -h over 2p c=h over 4p + k H= -b

  7. Horizontal axis of symmetry

  8. General parabola
