  • Social Darwinism (Survival of fittest): Natural selection/ survival of the fittest;
    • It justified the monopolies or big businesses and the existence of poverty; economists found this as a way to justify the doctrine of laissez faire.
  • Laissez Faire: French for “Allow to do”. Doctrine stating that the government should not regulate or interfere with big business.
    • Advocated government protection of the rights of management against labor and called for high tariffs.
