  1. Victor Hugo - Lucien l’AllierSidewalks

  2. Overview • Sidewalks on Victor Hugo / Lucien l’Allier are breaking apart • Large areas of sidewalks are missing concrete • Dirt and water collecting providing source for weeds causing further damage to concrete • Metal rods imbedded in concrete exposed with dangerous edges

  3. Issues • Sidewalks are becoming more dangerous each year • Often people are seen tripping, some have fallen • Young families have difficulty maneuvering baby carriages and carts • Young children unable to learn to ride tricycles/bicycles due to missing concrete • Some metal rods are dangerous to people walking and could puncture vehicle tires • If sidewalks to repaired or replaced they will continue to get worse (and more rapidly)

  4. Recommendations • Improvements to the sidewalks (and road) should be included in the next budget (work planned for next year – 2013) • Due to the nature and magnitude of the problem the preferred option would be to replace all concrete sidewalks • As a temporary option the sidewalks could be “patched and fixed”. This would not be a preferred option since this is only a short term fix and will not resolve the problem. Patching would not be aesthetically appropriate due to the value of the homes on the street that many residents are investing improvements to their homes
