  4. IBM Introduced a New Era in Midrange Disk Systems • IBM Storwize V7000 announced October 7, 2010 • Very well-received by customers, business partners and reviewers • Tremendous positive reception around the world • Presence in every major country and industry • Over13.200systems sold world-wide since Nov 2010 GA (Sep 2012) There have been numerous attempts at repackaging high-end enterprise products for a wider audience, but few get it right. One exception, however, could be IBM’s new Storwize V7000, which mixes enterprise-class storage virtualization with custom hardware and an intuitive management interface to create a highly scalable, yet easy-to-deploy, mid-range storage solution. Source: Talk on the Street … Author Alan Stevens gives his review, February 24, 2011 (Extract) One of the fastest product ramps in IBM storage history

  8. Controller Enclosure – Rear • Looks identical on type 12C and 24C • Rear of the Enclosure: • There are two power supply slots along the bottom of the unit, each taking up half of 1U. The left hand slot is power supply 1, the right hand slot is power supply 2. The power supplies are inserted the same way up (unlike V7000). • There are two canister slots along the top of the unit, again taking up half of 1U The left slot is canister 1, the right slot is canister 2. The canisters are inserted the same way up (unlike V7000) • Fans are contained within the PSU, replacement requires a new PSU • Fan speed is variable and under system control • Fans continue to operate in a PSU which has failed or lost AC power

  9. Node Canister • Four 6 Gb/s SAS ports • currently only port 4 is used (foradditional enclosure connections) • Two USB 2.0 ports • one port used during install • Two 10/100/1000 Mb/s Ethernet ports • Usage of port 1 is required, port 2 is optional • Optional Host Interface Cards
