  1. Team Leader Training 2018-2019

  2. General Judging Points • Recruit Team Members • Bring Team member list • Community Judges will be added to your team • Paper with what to do when- on clip board for team leaders • Final Number of Projects by category • Please wear name tag at all times while judging • Dress Appropriately • Careful with paperwork • Careful with conversations • Do not ask personal questions • Conflict of Interest • Okay if school/ name is on project • Sign/comment/initial project Hang Tag • For categories with large number of projects- Start from each end of tables • Participants get better with each interview • Turn in paperwork to coordinator at front office in a timely manner, especially forms with quick turn-around requirement

Thursday General Schedule • 12:30 PM Mandatory Judge Meeting for all judges • Organization for Judging • Move Projects • Projects may be in the wrong category • Preliminary judging of boards and papers • 7:00 PM Nominations due for Best Papers • Display team can begin judging for the best designed board

San Luis Valley Regional Science Fair2019 Judge Ethics Statement & Sign-in Sheet • You will be asked to read and sign a statement (below) upon arrival • I hereby acknowledge that by signing this form, I agree to serve as a judge for the San Luis Valley Regional Science Fair. I agree to act in a positive and ethical manner in which each student encountered is treated fairly and respectfully. Privileged information or ideas that are obtained through my volunteer service will be kept confidential by me and I will not use such information or ideas nor disclose such information or ideas to third parties. I agree to disclose any conflicts, potential conflicts, perceived conflicts, and perceived conflicts of interest resulting from direct competitive, collaborative or other relationships with any of the students and to recuse myself from judging in such circumstances. I agree to decline and report any offer of payment or other consideration of value. I agree to report and refrain from harassment of any person for any reason including, but not limiting to: age, national origin, race, color religion, gender, sexual orientation, marital status, disability, ancestry and/or veteran status and understand the SLVRSF responsibly to investigate such claims. I agree to notify the SLVRSF immediately if I become aware of any circumstance that would compromise my ability to attend the event or evaluate projects.

  5. Thursday Moving Projects • Moving projects -Thursday only • Only team leaders may make the decision to move projects • Talk to the receiving team leader • Add to project move list at the office front desk • Put out project move form • Attach to place project was originally located • Designate someone if you can’t be there for the project move time • Front office needs to be told who the designee is

  6. Thursday Project Hang tags • Make sure all judges sign or initial • Constructive comments only • Black out any negative comments, regardless of who made them

  7. Thursday Display • Display Team can Begin Judging for the best designed board

Due by 7:00 PM Thursday Paper Nominations • From category team • Nominate best 3-5 papers in each category and division • Each division for the paper team to evaluate • Friday morning • Write the project number and title from board • Projects may not have a paper • If no paper is present, paper cannot be nominated • Participants may bring paper for interview Friday. Ask for the paper. • One award from each division

Friday General Schedule • 8:00am Paper Team Begins • 9:00am Oral Team Begins • 9:00 am -12:00 Junior Senior Division Interviews • Place Award Decisions • Nominations for Oral Awards • 9:00 am -10:45am Elementary Interviews For Biomed, Earth Science, Zoology, Botany, Environmental Science, & Physics. • Place Award Decisions • Nominations for Oral Awards • Nominations for Most Enthusiastic Speakers • 11-12:45 Elementary Interviews For Behavioral & Social Science, Chemistry, Consumer, Engineering, Math & Computer Sciences • Place Award Decisions • Nominations for Oral Awards • Nominations for Most Enthusiastic Speakers • 1:00-2:45 Junior, Senior Team Leader Return for Big Awards • 2-2:45 Elementary Team Leaders Return for Big Awards • All awards due by 3:30pm

  12. Due Friday before ISEF interviews Oral Award Nominations • As a team, each category nominates the best 3-5 speakers in each category • Next, Oral Awards team will evaluate and make a decision • After interviewing is complete for the category, nominations should be turned in to the front office • Oral award team chooses one project from each division

  14. Due Friday Most Enthusiastic Speaker • Nominated by category team • After interviewing is complete for the category, nominations should be turned in to the front office • Oral Awards team will then evaluate • Elementary Only • Two awards • Purpose- Radio interview

  15. Due Friday at 1:30 PM Novice Newton Awards • Encouragement awards- for projects with good creative projects, not everything is together for a place award. • Elementary Level only • No more than 2 from each category • Category Team Decision

  16. Friday 12:30 PM Deadline Middle School Principals Award • Applies only to Junior Division • Encouragement award- • for good creative projects • not quite a place award • 2 from each category? • Category Team Decision

  17. Due Friday at 1:30 PM Pioneers of Science • Encouragement award- • for good creative projects • not quite a place award • Elementary Level only • 2 from each category? • Category Team Decision

  18. Friday Grand Awards Possibilities- 1st, 2nd, 3rd, Honorable mention(s). Need to write project number and title Sign and date the form Junior / Senior Do not need to fill all spots (Quality) Need paperwork in by 12:30 Friday Elementary Usually try to fill all spots, Need paperwork in by 1:30 Friday

  19. Due by 3:30 PM Friday Intel International Science & Engineering Fair Award (ISEF) • Applies to Senior Division only • 2 student & 1 Alternate to go to ISEF • Must be 1st place project • or 1st and 2nd from the same category • Team Leaders’ Decision

  20. Due by 3:30 PM Friday Student Observer to Intel International Science & Engineering Fair (ISEF) • Team Leaders’ Decision • This award should come from the Junior Division, but could come from the Senior Division if student is a freshman or sophomore • Student should have a project that has won a grand award

  21. Due by 3:30 PM Friday Colorado State Science & Engineering Fair Award (CSEF) • 24 Positions • Must be from Junior/Senior Divisions only • Normally from 1st and 2nd Places in category awards • Do not send a 2nd Place over a 1st Place in the same category • Team Leaders’ Decision

  22. Due by 3:30 PM Friday Most Original Project Awards • 1 Senior Division • 1 Junior Division • 1 Elementary Division • Must be from a project that has won a category award • Creativity • Team Leaders’ Decision

  23. Due by 3:30 PM Friday Best Overall Project • 1 Senior Division • 1 Junior Division • 1 Elementary Division • Must come from 1st place Projects • Team Leaders’ Decision
