October 18th Running Dosimeter arrays: Single dosimeter mounted on the exit window of the decay solenoid; Array of dosimeters on the inside the DSA north wall; Array of dosimeters on the inside of the DSA west wall; Array of dosimeters on the upstream surface of the fixed radiation-shield wall.

  5. Issues: October 18th Running • DAQ not working when start running • GVA2 disconnected – • had to debug/discover/reconnect/power up • Target delay adjustment – caused target dipping to stop • Had to debug – 1.5 hr delay

October 19thRunning • Goal: Measure change in activation of synchrotron with MICE target operating at MS/128 and producing beam loss at the 200 mV level for a period of sixteen hours. • Dosimeter arrays installed • “Pre-run” rad survey done • Turned on magnets, target, detectors, target DAQ, DAQ

  9. Results: October 19th Running • NO issues getting started/running!! • Startup ~ 1 hour • Took data all day – 14 hours • Many shifters • Detectors and DAQ running • scanned beam momentum in steps of 20 MeV/c from 100 MeV/c – 400 MeV/c • 19, 658 target actuations

General ToDo List • ELOG running and being used* • Install dosimeter arrays in/around DSA and hall – done, will stay until user run begins • Establish routine monitoring points in hall with Charlie East – pending • Need local time server in MLCR – JSG • Need dedicated Windows machine in MLCR in order to change target delay – KL sorted out • Target DAQ integrated into DAQ – pending

General ToDo List Cont’d • Decay Solenoid Fridge – Linde worked on fridge to fix recent problems • fit the pressure reducer and clean the gas after the blockage experienced in the last cool down • May still be leak - investigating • North wall finished by Nov 14 • Dust/dirt in hall on/near power supplies still an issue • need professional cleaning • PPS – installing yellow cage doors next to MLCR, mezzanines

Shutdown ToDo List • Open up Decay Solenoid and install more diagnostics - done • Fix Q4,Q5, Q6 water leaks - done • Moveable beam stop in place/test – done & working • Concrete floor block started – finished • FNAL beam monitors • Small one rebuilt, noise problem fixed, reinstalled behind DS, and running • almost done • Large one - pending • Reinstall GVA1, GVA2 – done • Recover from power outage – done • Commissioning runs on CKOV – ongoing (Dan?)

Other Useful Changes • Phones in MICE corral in R76 dial internationally • New MICE visitors webpage • Maps, instructions for first visit, safety training information, travel and transport info, local restaurant and lodging info • Shipped 6 VLSB, 7 AFEIIt spare boards to FNAL (Terry comment) • New MICE digital camera • Facilitate trouble shooting/documentation/recording actions • Start overall contact list ** • MICE van CAN be parked overnight at Cosener’s House • Have established procedure for obtaining permission to drive van • Must be more formal than previously thought

Future Commissioning Needs • Standardize MOM handoff • Wrote document for transition from my term to Dan • MOM handoff information • Hall search and secure procedure • Daily walkthrough procedure • Prepare for running procedure • ToDo list as of end of current MOM term • List of contact people for ongoing, high priority projects • Should be edited/added to as needed • Documentation • MUST document everything given few experts and many shifters • MUST use/read ELOG Exercise equipment regularly – whether taking beam data or not

Future Commissioning Needs • Exercise equipment regularly – whether taking beam data or not • Formalize run training like safety training? • “certified” to turn on magnets, dip target, run DAQ • Review previous run periods • How improve efficiency & productivity • What went wrong – how avoid next time • Like M&M for med school (morbidity & mortality) • Run review panel?
