  6. Job Outlook an annual survey of college recruiters says…True and Tested Secrets to Job-Search Success • Take advantage of the resources on your campus provided by Career Services. Trained, professional staff is available to guide your student through the job search process and teach them how to take the various steps with success. • A career advisor can’t “place” your student in a position. They’re on campus to teach job searching skills, connect students with potential employers, and prepare them to communicate their interests in a position with that employer through resumes, cover letters, and interview techniques. • Successful applicants relied on on-campus interviews, speaking with company representatives at career/job fairs, viewing employer information presentations, and posting their resumes on their career services web sites.

  9. First Things First… • School comes first! • Attend classes • Study – read, write, research, homework • Acclimate – prioritize: social life, physical health, spiritual, emotional, and mental health, time management, work

First Year • Keep grades up, manage time well • Introspection – learn about interests, skills, abilities, experiences, try new things! • Determine what resources are available and utilize them to personally and professionally develop: education hands-on skills, life & work experiences, training, professional image, credibility

First Year Visit Career Services, physically or Electronically and attend all seminars to learn about how we can help with career development needs… Our services include: Campus-wide educational programming Job opportunity emails On-on-one appointments with a Career Advisor: • Career advising, MyPlan • Job search guidance, including HuskyJOBS • Resume writing assistance • Interview coaching and practice Fall and Winter Career Fairs Co-op and internship opportunities

First Year • Complete the career assessments with MyPlan found on the Career Services website and meet with a Career Advisor to discuss the results • Learn how to navigate Career Fairs • Write a professional looking resume and upload it to HuskyJOBS • Get interview skill coaching at the Career Services • Forget that summer job flipping burgers – get help at Career Services to obtain an internship in your field of study
