Library Databases available • Business & management databases: • Business source complete – useful for business related research • Emerald - Elsevier • Science Direct – useful for psychology and other science based subjects • Marketing reports: Mintel, IBISWorld • UK company information: FAME • Newspapers: Nexis, FT.com • British Standards publications • E- journals

  4. You’ve been given an assignment • What next?.... • Break up concepts • Identify key words • Check terminology, Americanisms • Branding?

  6. Keywords Specific General American Alternative terms Spelling Related terms misspelling Truncation & boolean logic Abbreviations ?, * ATM ‘AND’, ‘OR’ Proximity searching

  8. Start searching….. Google? Google scholar? Library database? (who and what do you trust?)

  9. Search results • Check for: • Number of citations • New paper? Possibly cutting edge research? • Analyse search results critically • Quick scan read – intro and conclusion • Download for full read at a later date

  10. Analyse your results You need to evaluate and critique the results you find. Just because they have your keywords in the title or abstract, doesn’t mean they will help you answer your essay question. Make sure they are relevant!
