  1. Gandhi a True Leader Evan Dinkel Sierra Cooper

  2. Transformational Leadership Gandhi • Transformational leadership Is a leadership style focused on effecting revolutionary change in organizations through a commitment to the organization’s vision. • The four steps used by leaders to make change is challenge the process, inspire a shared vision, enable others to act, and model the way. • The four characteristics of idealized influence, inspirational motivation, intellectual stimulation, and individualized consideration. • Mohandas Gandhi shows throughout his life that he has the qualities to be a transformational leader and we will show that in this PowerPoint.

  3. Transformational Leadership Gandhi Transformational leadership four steps • Challenge the process- find something that needs to be changed. • Inspire a shared vision- show people why there needs to be changes made. • Enable others to act- telling people what they need to do to get things to change. • Model the way- do what you preach, make the change yourself.

  4. How did Gandhi lead? • Gandhi showed transformational leadership throughout his acts to free India and stop the civil war through his non-violent protest. • Gandhi stopped the fighting in his country by leading through example and showing the people of his country what needed to be done, not just telling. • He always had faith in what he was doing and even throughout the many jail visits, never let that hold him back.

  5. Salt Tax Problems • Challenge the process- In the movie Gandhi saw that the salt tax was way too high for the Indians. Unfortunately, they still needed to purchase salt because they could not make their own and could not sell their own salt because they didn’t have a license to do so. • Inspire a shared vision- before the march to Navasri Gandhi gave a giant speech to all of his followers were he sad we will go to the sea and make salt and we will get arrested but we will not fight back. • Enable others to act- Gandhi then took his followers on a 240 mile march to Navasri and when they get there they made salt for free and did not pay taxes on it.

  6. Salt Tax Problems (continued) • Model the way- Gandhi made the salt and got arrested and beaten and could have tried to fight back with violence but instead he took the beating and accepted getting arrested and did not fight back.

  7. Individualized consideration • Gandhi showed individualized consideration in a scene from the movie “Gandhi” when the horses were charging at Gandhi and his followers. One of the followers told everyone to lay down on the ground. Gandhi along with the rest of the other followers listened to him. By doing so, the horses did not run them over and kill them. By listening to his follower plan people did not get trampled.

  8. Indian civil war • Challenge the process-The civil war between Hindu and Muslim groups is destroying the country and coasting many Indian lives, Gandhi wanted this to stop and the thoughts of Separating the country. • Inspire a shared vision- Gandhi said they are one group of people and this civil war is killing the country and many people are dying that do not have to die. He wants to unite the Hindu and Muslim so they can work together and to stop killing one another. • Enable others to act- Gandhi says that people need to stop trying to divide the country and stop the violence and until this stops he will start fasting. • Model the way- The violence dose not stop and Gandhi starts fasting and nearly dies before the violence stops.

  9. Conclusion • Transformational leadership is a leadership style focused on effecting revolutionary change in organizations through a commitment to the organization’s vision. • Gandhi is a transformational leader because he gets his power and inspiration through his followers and not himself. • One of Gandhi’s best quotes that he said is “Non-violence is the greatest force at the disposal of mankind. It is mightier than the mightiest weapon of destruction devised by the ingenuity of man.” Meaning that words and actions make much more of a dent in the world than arms.
