  5. Answers to FAQs • Accelerated Reader is a fifth grade reading incentive program. It will be introduced to the fourth grade in a different format during the second marking period (2012). • Students select books and take computerized tests that check for comprehension. Points are earned after successfully scoring 60%or higher on tests. • Prizes are rewarded at various point levels. Prize eligibility ends May 31, 2013 for fifth grade.

  6. Students will receive a check on the report card for independent reading if he/she does not meet the goal set by the reading teacher. • Prizes include bookmarks and pencils, books, ice pops, games, homework passes, bagel breakfast each marking period, end of the year pizza party, special recess, name on plaque, and William F. Zitko Award. 6. Each reading teacher sets the goal his/her reading class.
