  3. ETHOS • When writing, convincing your audience that you (the writer) are worth listening to; you have credibility. • Make readers believe that you are an expert on the subject matter. How? • Demonstrate a thorough knowledge on the subject. • Speaking with a personal relationship to the subject. • Demonstrating confidence, sincerity and honesty when writing • By appealing to the ethics/character of your audience

  4. Pathos • Persuading your audience by appealing to their emotions • Using IDEAS, appeal to the readers’ emotions such as empathy or fear How? • Provide the audience with a scenario that incites strong feeling

  5. Logos • The logical way of looking at a topic • Appeal to the person by using facts/figures, numbers, citations, and claims. How? • Strong, clear claims • Clear reasons for claims • Strong evidence (facts, statistics, personal experience, expert authority, interviews, observations, anecdotes) • Acknowledgement of the opposition
