  2. Luk. 19:28 28After Jesus had said this, he went on ahead, going up to Jerusalem. 29As he approached Bethphage and Bethany at the hill called the Mount of Olives, he sent two of his disciples, saying to them, 30"Go to the village ahead of you, and as you enter it, you will find a colt tied there, which no one has ever ridden. Untie it and bring it here.

  3. 31If anyone asks you, 'Why are you untying it?' tell him, 'The Lord needs it.' "  32Those who were sent ahead went and found it just as he had told them. 33As they were untying the colt, its owners asked them, "Why are you untying the colt?" 34They replied, "The Lord needs it." 35They brought it to Jesus, threw their cloaks on the colt and put Jesus on it. 36As he went along, people spread their cloaks on the road.

  4. 41As he approached Jerusalem and saw the city, he wept over it 42and said, "If you, even you, had only known on this day what would bring you peace—but now it is hidden from your eyes. 43The days will come upon you when your enemies will build an embankment against you and encircle you and hem you in on every side. 44They will dash you to the ground, you and the children within your walls. They will not leave one stone on another, because you did not recognize the time of God's coming to you."

  5. 45Then he entered the temple area and began driving out those who were selling. 46"It is written," he said to them, " 'My house will be a house of prayer'[c]; but you have made it 'a den of robbers.

  6. “First” • First Riding an animal • First call Himself “God” • Significance: Zech 9:9 Rejoice greatly, O Daughter of Zion! Shout, Daughter of Jerusalem! See, your king [a] comes to you, righteous and having salvation, gentle and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey.

  7. “Their Response” • Laugh/Humiliate • Angry • Joyful • Who are they ? • People that have been healed and touched by Jesus: Maybe Bartimaeus, 10 lepers, Jairus daughter, Zacchaeus, Lazarus, Maria and Marta • The Pharisee and Saduki • The Romans • Many people: the news has been spread: “the One that raised Lazarus from the grave is here.”

  8. “THE VEHICLE” • Donkey – fulfillment of prophecy in Zech 9:9 • Horse – General – royalty, military, power through weapons & army • Camel – patrician/merchant – royalty, wealth, power through riches & influence • Donkey – judge – royalty, judge, power through righteousness & meekness • The way He gets it: “God needs it” – the first time He called Himself “Lord”; but still a full, voluntary cooperation and acceptance of His claim is needed from the donkey owner.

  9. 2 “The Journey” • Weeping for Jerusalem (Luk 19:41-44, Jn. 12:27-32) • Cursing the fig tree • picture of God’s character: compassion & judgment

  10. 3. THE CROWD They shouted: Hosana! – God save us now! I pray Their action: took off their robe and to be used as coaster treatment for royalty The disciples – “Save us from hell & judgment” The rejoicing crowd – “Save us from the oppression of Rome” Yoh 12:17 These quickly turn against Him 5 days later The wondering crowd – “Save us from whatever” “herd mentality” – “Crucify Him” (ikut2an)  Jesus’ response: “Father forgive them for they know not what they do” The critical crowd – “Save us from change” Luke 19:39, Yoh 12:19

  11. 4. THE DECISION Personal: where are we in the crowd? Ministry: family, friends, city, country are in the moments of decision. Next Sunday can be glorious decision for your friends & family. What are you going to do about it? John 12;32 “But I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all men to myself." Jesus is still crying for Jerusalem. In a moment He will not have any choice but to curse the fig tree. Will you join His weeping?

  12. Today is the last Sunday before Easter. What do we expect from the Lord? For us, others, the church? 2000 years ago, it was Palm Sunday. It was Jesus’ last Sunday on the earth. He is entering Jerusalem for the last time. Five days later He would walk out of it with a heavy cross upon His torn back. This is the first time He announced that He is the Messiah. It’s decision time!
