  2. Overview • Systematic method to ‘think’ about thinking. It is a practical thinking tool. • Helps us to organise our thinking by making us think in distinct ways. Directs thinking in a one direction at a time: • Facts • Creativity • Benefits • Cautions • Feelings • And Processes

  3. The Issue • There should be NO homework! Isn’t there enough schoolwork done throughout the day?

  4. This hat focuses on the information. • Facts • Neutral information • Primary and Secondary Sources

  5. Focuses on emotions, feelings hunches, and intuition

  6. The black hat is concerned with truth and reality. • Critical thinking. • Prevents us from making mistakes.

  7. Is a positive and optimistic hat. • It looks at all the positives of an idea. • Seeks to find the benefits of an idea.

  8. This is the active hat. • Creative thinking. • Emphasis on the new. • Concerned with: • Proposals • Suggestions • New ideas • New alternatives • New solutions or inventions

  9. Concerned with thinking about thinking! • Manage the thinking process.

  10. Your task: Make your own de Bono’s Hat • Get yourselves into groups of 4 or 5 and find a spot in the room. • You will each be given an A4 piece of paper to design your hat. • You will need to discuss and vote on which hat you will make out of the cardboard. • As a group you will construct a cardboard prototype. • You will then present your prototype to the class and teachers.
