  1. Welcome!!!! Mrs. Holmes Social Studies

  2. What to expect… • Homework: There will be homework every week. It will be reading • Test: Tests will follow Common Core standards and testing techniques: Reading and Annotating. Quizzes daily • Respect: Your will be respectful at all times and ALL homework will be competed on time

  3. RULES • 1. You are on time: This means in your seat, with all your materials (pens, pencil, paper, binder, HW, Agenda), working on the BW, and not talking. • 2. You are respectful: This means that you talk when you are told to (answering questions) and that you do not talk at any other time. There will be no side bar conversation tolerated. This includes talking when I am or a classmate is talking. • 3. One chance rule: I will give you one warning. After that warning you will sent out of the classroom and given ASD or ISS.

  4. Procedures • 1. Tardies: after 3 you are given ASD • 2. No bathroom until after 10 mins. of class. After that you will sign a pass and raise your hand for me to sign it. • 3. No sharpening pencils during class… no borrowing pencils during class. If you do not have a pencil, you must ask me and take a tardy. If you are caught talking, it will be your one warning before ASD is given. • 4. No “shooting” paper. If you need to throw something away, wait until after class or do it before.

  5. Agendas • Each of you should have an Agenda • It is YOUR responsibility to write in it daily. HW is written on every teacher’s board. I will give a min. during class to write in it. You must then have me sign it BEFORE you leave the room.

  6. Entering the Class • When you enter the class, you WALK into the room and grab your papers off the table. • You then go directly to you seat and begin working on the BW • At NO point should you be talking or out of your seat talking, sharpening a pencil, or getting materials. All things should have ben taken care of before the bell rings

  7. Exiting the Class • You will wait until I dismiss you (whether the bell rang or not). Failing to do so will prolong your exit and will force you to be tardy to your next class • You will push in your chair (last period of the day will put the chairs on the desks) • You will check your area for trash. No one will be allowed to leave the room unless it is spotless

  8. Homework • Will be given weekly • It is the students’ responsibility to complete this work at home. Failure to complete it due to “not understanding it” does not exclude the student from missing that question • Should be turned into the bins (green and brown) on the table at the beginning of class. Failure to turn these into the bins is the students’ fault (not the teacher).

  9. Assessments • Major:60% (tests, projects, some quizzes) • Minor: 30% (classwork, some quizzes) • HW: 10% (work sent home) • Expect a quiz daily!!! Anything that is given to be read for HW will be quizzed the next day!! If you fail the quiz, you will be working on the reading while the rest of the class participates in the activity.

  10. Class Website • There is a website for the class. You can use it for any extra resources you may need or to look at the notes ahead. This is also a calendar that can be used to help you track what is going on any given week. • http://jholmes16.wikispaces.com/
