  8. Community Service • 在美国,从中小学开始,学校就很注意如何把学生培养成全面人才的问题,除了在课程设置上力求为学生打好基础、使知识得到均衡发展外,还要求他们必须参与社区服务,即“做义工”。学校将学生社区服务的情况作为考核的重要标准。每个学生除了有学习成绩单外,还有一份社区服务成绩表。一位在联合国工作的学生家长说:“我儿子成绩一般,能被纽约大学一个较好的专业录取,得益于他社区服务的成绩好。”

Eton College • Eton College(伊顿公学) was founded in 1440 by King Henry VI. • Today it is a secondary school (a ‘high school’ in the American sense) for approximately 1,300 boys between the ages of 13 and 18, all of whom are boarders.(寄宿生) Every boy at Eton isrequired to take responsibility for his own life and to get on with a community of other people

  10. Boys enjoy working and reading with younger children of all ages at a range of local schools • Many boys enjoy visiting elderly people in their homes . they go along for a cup of tea, a chat, or perhaps to help in the garden.

  11. Boys attend Lower Chapel(礼拜) during their first two years. Over 500 boys meet there for fifteen minutes on four weekday mornings, and on Sundays for a fuller service of about forty minutes.

  12. Boys in their last two years have the opportunity to get involved with one of the many Social Service projects, giving up some of their free time to help in local primary schools or in special schools for the handicapped (残疾人)

  13. Discussion: work in groups of six • What are differences between “Community Service” and Activity “Learn from LeiFeng”(学雷锋,做好事) in China. • Make a list of the differences between them • Give a brief report to the class.
