  2. Status • We are getting organized for the coming year. • Vice Chair: New to the Section Officer position. • Dr. Mike Ross from Sandia National Labs who is also serving as our Newsletter Editor. • Membership: Searching for a Membership Officer • Programs: • First Section Meeting: 18 August. Speaker: Dr. Alok Dos. Senior Scientist for Design Innovation for the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL), Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio. Dr. Dos is the AFRL’s chief innovation officer, principal advisor in formulating, planning and implementing technology and process innovation strategies throughout the AFRL, and leads the AFRL rapid reaction team • September Speaker: Dr. Bala from Los Alamos National Lab. • Lining up a slate of speakers for the whole year • Will be requesting a Distinguished Lecturer for Dec and May 2012

  3. Status (Continued) • Financials: Good shape • Will be sorting out Special Service Citations • Will be sorting out Membership Upgrades • Ed Caicedo will be our Section Rep at the RLC • My goals for the Section this year are: (1) Engage program speakers to increase participation at our monthly meetings, which we will have starting 18 August, with meetings on the 3rd Thursday of each month; (2) Increase participation by our younger members in Section officers positions and activities – some of us are “getting up there in age or long in the tooth,” but we do not age discriminate – I plan on meeting with key leadership to encourage their AIAA members participation and along that line we have a new officer from SNL as our Vice-Chairman and also fulfilling our Newsletter position; (3) upgrade our members status for those that meet upgrade guidelines; (4) bring AIAA education thrusts to local K-12 schools and educate students to the benefits of having a science/engineering education and inform our members so they in turn can inform their sons and daughters of aerospace educational opportunities in NM – see more on this in this Newsletter.
