  1. SWOT analysis on Prevention & socio economic impact research

  2. Gaps in Prevention Research • STI research gaps: • HSV-2 • Study on prevalence • Testing sera for HSV-2 • Could combine HSV-2 into HIV prevalence survey ? • Evaluation of vaginal discharge algorithm for LRW

  3. HIV incidence for all population groups

  4. How to identify needs from PLWA? • Opportunity to see whether people need social economical support

  5. Young people: • Sexual networking among young women • Understand better how they communicate with each other and decision making process • Compare situation in rural and urban areas • > needed to build evidence based prevention, communication messages

  6. Communication among discordant couple • Languages & decision making in couple • Condom use within couple

  7. Access to services HIV testing and counseling (VCCT, PITC, PMTCT) and determinants for testing uptake: • Groups to study: DU, MSM, Sex worker, pregnant women, TB patients • Look at the quality of services • Look at the quality of counseling for HIV positive and negative cases • Look both perspectives; provider and clients • Impact of VCT on behavior changes

  8. People don’t know how to use research findings

  9. How awareness translate to behavior change? • Look at various groups

  10. How behavior change? • Need solid understanding causes of change in behavior

  11. Capacity of local researcher • Research should be conducted by local scientists • Need capacity building

  12. Need more meta-analysis • Need to look at the inventory in depth, to find what have been well studied and to solve existing controvercies

  13. HIV prevalence among children/babies

  14. Cost effectiveness of key programs • PMCTC • 100% Condom use program

  15. Need more studies on Indirect female sex workers • E.g. female casino workers, karaoke girls, beer girls have differents behaviors • Need to assess if we need a common strategy for all groups or specific intervention for each group

  16. Socio-economic impact • Impact of HIV on household level, particularly women • Impact of HIV on heal sector and other on sectors • Multi-disciplinary research required for this type of study

  17. Assess stigma and its determinants over time • HIV incidence • Prevention among HIV positive people

  18. General comments • Few program evaluations  need more • When we use research findings for evidence based program we will need to do more evaluation of these programs to see whether the proposed intervention programs work

  19. Use of research findings is too limited • NCHADS should play role to update all information • Should include tools used for research/reports ( questionnaires etc..) so people can evaluate the research, compare and share tools • The findings should be given to the national policy level (govn’t counterparts must be aware of the latest findings)

  20. Posted inventory on website NCHADS or NAA • Form a committee gathering all NGOs and comment on protocols of all HIV related research • Organize annual seminar on HIV prevention (to bring all researchers together)

  21. Need better research and a better mechanism for sharing research findings • Use both Qualitative and quantitative research (combined methodology) • Use of meta-analysis of existing researches to synthesize the findings, identify the commonalities and contradictions and show the way forward
