Setting: The time and place of a story. *This is where the action takes place. • Frozen takes place in Arendelle, Norway. • The movie, Hidden Figures, takes place during the 1960s. • Just like movies, books can have multiple settings. • The setting is established in the first part of the novel or short story. • Think about your independent reading book. Characters • The individuals that perform the action and develop or move the plot forward. • All stories have a protagonist or main character. • The protagonist has an enemy or antagonist. • The protagonist is trying to resolve the problem or conflict, while the antagonist is trying to get in his way. • Who is the protagonist in your independent reading book?
