What Drives Us • Mission Our mission is to educate, train, validate, and support the fire and emergency services at the highest quality level possible. • Vision The Utah Fire and Rescue Academy at Utah Valley University will become the premier emergency services education and training organization in the nation, using consistent quality assessment and quality improvement strategies

  3. 2009-2010 Achievements • Public Safety Agency “Best of State Award” • 5176(6295) Non-credit Students • 304(383) Classes • 2,999 Certifications issued • 2137 Affiliated • 862 Non-affiliated • 99 (103) Graduates (BS, AS, AAS)

Budget & Finance • UVU Finance & procurement rules apply • UFRA Finance Manager also reports to UVU Administration • UVU provides O&M, Security, HR, many service and support functions as “match” for DPS Funding • UVU Human Resource rules apply • 34 Full & Part-time UFRA Staff • 260 UFRA Instructors & Certification Testers

  6. Goal 4: Explore Supplemental Funding • a. DHS Grants: • Applied for Fire Prevention & Safety Grant for Wildland Fire R&D of Novel Method and Apparatus for Suppression with partners BYU and private inventor. • Application denied

  7. Goal 4: SupplemenaryFunding • b. FEMA National Fire Academy Grant: • Yearly Application • Received $27,000 for allowable NFA approved courses.

  8. Goal 4: SupplemenaryFunding • c. Donations: • Solicited Donor for Endowed Scholarship • UVU Foundation Received $50,000 for Emergency Services Scholarship fund. • Awards will be based on earnings of endowment

  19. Goal 7:Creating Partnerships • a. UFRA representatives attend regional and state chiefs, USFMA, JCFSO, NFPA, IFSAC etc. meetings. • b. UFRA meets regularly with SFMO and provides written information. • c. Assist Fire Marshal’s Assn. with $2,999 for annual training. • d. Assist Firemen’s Assn. with $2,999 for annual training.

  20. Goal 7:Creating Partnerships • e. Assist Fire Investigator’s Assn. with $2,999 for annual training. • f. Assist State Chiefs with Annual Conference • g. Partner with DPS, DNR, USFS and others to provide benefit to Utah FDs. • h. The Utah Fire Officer Designation Program has been approved by the Council and is progressing. • i. CTC Classes held at SSLFD • j. CTC Classes held at UFA

  21. Goal 7:Creating Partnerships • k. Utah Fire Officer Development Project revived and adopted as Utah Fire Officer Designation Program • Based on IAFC Handbook • Our Professional Development Matrix adopted by NFA FESHE • Supervising Fire Officer ready to launch

Quality Assurance evaluates every UFRA class & Instructor:90% rated good or excellent • c. FDs utilized CTC for 19 Promotion Activities, since opening • d. Regional contacts meet with local Chiefs and TOs
