  2. You can’t be an effective leader unless you are willing to follow leadership • If you are not a good follower, you will not be an effective leader • David and Joseph followed their father’s instruction

  3. Leadership is the ability to influence others • Influence is like a coin, it has two sides • Positive and Negative Side • As a leader, you should influence others positively. Numbers 16 (Korah uses negative influence) • “Once our minds are 'tattooed' with negative thinking, our chances for long-term success diminish” John Maxwell

  4. Character • Character is who you are when no one is watching • Character is having the Fruit of the Spirit Galatians 5:22; Isaiah 49:1-3

  5. Must be able to lead yourself successfully • Learn Followership • Develop Self-Discipline • Practice Patience • Seek Accountability

  6. Must take ownership of the vision of the set man (Acts 16:9-10) • Catch the vision of your leader. Become familiar with his vision, his outlook on life. When you understand his vision, you are better equipped to help him run with it. • Watch your leader to see what he does • Watch his actions. Watch his reactions. • Ask him for insight. A good leader won't mind sharing the "method to his madness." As you watch your leader and learn why he does what he does, you can store these things in your memory to recall and use when it becomes your turn to lead. .

Must develop a servant’s heartExodus 24:13; 33:11 • The sword has never conquered the power of the towel • Ways to Develop a servant’s heart • Develop a volunteer spirit (Psalms 110:3) • Have a determination to help (2 Corinthians 8:1-4) • Commit to follow-ship (Hebrews 13:7;17 • Start meeting the needs of people around you

  8. Must be an example for others to follow I Timothy 4:12 • Must mirror the set man’s vision • "A leader is one who knows the way, goes the way, and shows the way."
