  2. What Is Christmas? Christmas is a Christian holiday that celebrates the birth of Jesus Christ. In America it is the biggest event of the year. Heidi

  3. During the Christmas Season • On this day, many go to church, and attend special religious services. • People also exchange gifts and decorate their homes with holly, mistletoe, and Christmas trees. Heidi

  4. The Origin of Christmas • The story of Christmas comes from the gospels of saint Luke and saint Matthew in the new testament. Heidi

  5. The Story of Christmas • The annunciation • Joseph & Mary going to Bethlehem • Baby Jesus & Mary • Angel & the shepherds • Shepherds go unto Bethlehem • Shepherds adoring baby Jesus • King Herod & the 3 wise men • Wise men follow star • Gifts for Jesus Heidi

  6. The Annunciation • The angel came to Mary and said,"fear not, Mary; thou shall conceive in thy womb,and bring forth a son, and shall call his name Jesus." Heidi

  7. Joseph and Mary Going to Bethlehem Joseph and Mary went to Bethlehem. They wanted to be registered. Heidi

  8. Baby Jesus and Mary • Mary brought forth her son, wrapped him in swaddling clothes,and laid him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn. Heidi

  9. Angels and the Shepherds • Shepherdskept watch over their flock by night. An angel appeared to shepherds and told them of Jesus' birth. Heidi

  11. Shepherds adore baby Jesus • Shepherds came with no haste, and they found the babe lying in a manger. Heidi

  12. King Herod and the Wise Men • The wise men saw the star in the east and asked,"where is the king of the Jews? • Then King Herod sent the wise men to Bethlehem tosearch for the child. Heidi

  13. Wise Men Follow the Star • The wise men, called magi, followed a bright star in the east that led them to Jesus. • The star went before them…and they saw the baby Jesus. Heidi

  14. The Gifts for Jesus The wise men saw the young child and worshipped him. They presented the gifts for baby Jesus:  gold, and frankincense, and myrrh. Heidi
