  2. FIFA World Cup 2010 • This year the FIFA World Cup was held in South Africa from 11 June- 11 July 2010. • For the first time the world cup was held in the continent of Africa.

  3. Who were the finalists, who won, what was the score? • The final match was Spain vs. Netherlands • Spain won for the first time in FIFA history • It was the first time for a European side to win out of their continent.

  4. The score • The score was 1-0 with Andres Iniesta scoring the goal with four minutes of extra time. • Netherlands had very good teamwork they were always there passing to each other leaving Spain not scoring a single goal after 2 hours of the game. • But Spain’s goalkeeper IkerCasillas was strong enough not to allow Netherlands to score a goal.

  5. What could the defense have done to more effectively try and stop the goal being scored? • The goalie could have jumped higher to stop the goal being scored. • The defense should have communicated better like they did during the whole 2 hours of the game.

  6. Was there any movement ‘off the ball’ by other attackers to draw defenders away from the goal scorer? If yes what happened and what was the effect of this? • I know there were 3 players communicating with Andres Iniesta (goal scorer) to help him. • The first player kicked the ball but not very well and passed it onto the second player who quickly past it onto Andres Iniesta and scored the goal in an instant. • This gave a big effect to help Spain to win!

  7. Information about the teams • The teams have played each other three times in World Cup play, with Netherlands holding a 2-1 edge. • Neither team has won the world cup before, though the Dutch were playing in their third final. • The match was not pretty for much of the time, with the Dutch committing 28 fouls and the Spanish contributing 19. • Netherlands midfielder Nigel de Jong was lucky to escape with only a yellow card after kicking Alonso in the chest while going for the ball.

  8. Information about Netherlands • Netherlands has been to the World Cup finals twice but suffered painful losses on both occasions. • Netherlands had 4 players with yellow cards!

  9. Information about Spain • Spain has never won a World Cup but they have made 12 appearances including three quarterfinals and one semifinal. • Spanish coach Vicente del Bosque told television: "It was a very difficult match. we have fantastic players. We could have scored another goal or two. But I think the result was deserved. It's a very happy day for me.”
